How Fantasy Cricket Scoring Works: Inside the Fantasy API

Oct. 14, 2026

If you've ever played fantasy cricket, you already understand two things without realizing it: you picked your squad within a budget, and your players earned points based on what they actually did on the field. Behind every fantasy cricket app, those two things, the budget and the scoring, are each powered by a specific piece of technology called an API. A cricket fantasy API is what lets an app calculate this automatically and in real time, instead of someone manually tallying runs and wickets after every match. Cricket API's Fantasy API overview covers the product at a glance; this post goes deeper into how the two underlying systems actually work.

How Fantasy Cricket Scoring Actually Works

Every fantasy cricket app runs on two separate systems working together: 1. Credits, the budget system. Before a match, every player is assigned a credit value. Better, more in-form players cost more credits. You build your fantasy squad by spending a fixed credit budget across 11 players, the same way you'd manage a transfer budget in any fantasy sport. 2. Points, the scoring system. As the match happens, every player earns fantasy points based on real events: runs scored, wickets taken, catches held, and more. These points determine who wins your fantasy league. An app needs reliable, real-time data for both of these to actually work. That's what the Fantasy API is built to provide.

The Two Systems Behind Fantasy Cricket Apps

System What it does What it's for
Fantasy Match Credits API Returns each player's credit value for a match Building the squad-selection screen
Fantasy Match Points API Returns each player's earned fantasy points, available either on request or delivered automatically Building the live leaderboard

Fantasy Match Credits API

This is what powers the screen where a user picks their fantasy squad. It returns the credit value for every player in a match, calculated using machine learning based on recent form, so better-performing players cost more. The response also includes an Intelligent Rank for each player, a built-in signal of how strong a pick they are.

Fantasy Match Points API

Once a match starts, this is what calculates and returns how many fantasy points each player has earned, based on Roanuz's AI-powered Fantasy Point System. The scoring itself is customizable, so an app doesn't have to use a one-size-fits-all points formula. This is the endpoint behind every live fantasy leaderboard. This same points data is available in two ways, not two different endpoints with different data, just two different delivery methods for the exact same information:
  • On request. Your app asks for the latest points whenever it needs them.
  • Via Push. The points are delivered to your app automatically the moment something happens, a wicket, a boundary, a milestone, instead of your app repeatedly asking for updates.
Use on-request if a short delay is acceptable. Use Push if your leaderboard needs to feel instant. Note that Push applies to points only. Credits are set before a match and don't change in real time, so there's no Push equivalent for credits.

Getting Started

Every Cricket API request, fantasy or otherwise, is authenticated the same way: generate an access token with your project key and API key, then include it as the rs-token header. See the Authentication guide for the exact steps. Full technical documentation: Ready to see this working with real match data? Get started and generate your first token today.

Who Actually Uses This

  • Fantasy sports platforms building their core scoring engine from scratch
  • Media and news apps adding a fantasy layer to existing cricket coverage
  • Prediction and skill-gaming platforms that want real-time scoring without building the logic themselves

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fantasy cricket API?

A fantasy cricket API is a service that automatically calculates and delivers the two things a fantasy cricket app needs: player credit values for squad-building, and real-time fantasy points based on match performance, so a developer doesn't have to build that scoring logic manually.

How are fantasy cricket points calculated?

Fantasy points are calculated from real match events, runs, wickets, catches, and other on-field actions, converted into a points value using a scoring system. With Cricket API, this scoring is AI-based and customizable, so different apps can weight events differently if they choose to.

What's the difference between fantasy credits and fantasy points?

Credits are a fixed value assigned to each player before a match, used to limit how a user builds their squad within a budget. Points are what a player earns during the match based on actual performance. Credits control squad-building; points determine the final score.

What's the difference between the standard Points API and Points via Push?

They return the exact same points data. The difference is delivery. The standard API responds when your app asks for it; Push sends the update automatically the moment something happens on the field, without your app needing to ask.

Can one API power an entire fantasy cricket app?

The Fantasy Credits and Fantasy Points systems together cover squad-building and scoring, the two fantasy-specific pieces. You'd pair them with the core match and tournament endpoints for everything else your app needs, live scores, fixtures, and player details.
