T20 World Cup 2022: Ultimate Team Notes – India vs England

India – Team Notes

Batting Options: 7 (Main – 6; Support – 1) Opening Pair: RHB-RHB This is Rohit Sharma's worst year in T20Is since 2017, both in terms of average runs per wicket and strike rate. Rohit Sharma in T20Is in 2022: Inn - 28, Balls -460, Runs - 629, Avg - 24.2, SR - 137 The most important thing to note here is the number of T20I matches he has played - 28, the most ever in a calendar year by a long shot. Playing a high volume of T20 cricket in a short period of time hasn't worked out for Rohit, which is why he's been poor in the IPL despite having a highly successful T20I career on the side since 2017. However, the Indian captain prefers traditional bowling, which England has plenty of - with no mystery spin and quick wrist spin. So don't rule him out just yet. While much attention has been focused on KL Rahul's first over scoring rate, an over where scoring is typically slow, that the 30-year-old is the fourth fastest batter in Overs 3-6 this World Cup has gone unnoticed Highest SR in Overs 3-6 in T20 WC 2022: L Das - 171, A Hales - 164, P Stirling - 149, KL Rahul - 139 Middle Order: No LHB options between No.3 and No.5 KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav will be crucial in keeping Adil Rashid out of the attack, as he is England's only real threat in this phase with Mark Wood unlikely to play. The Indian team as a whole has a fantastic record against Chris Jordan and his bowling style in general. KL Rahul in Overs 7-9 in T20Is in 2022: Balls - 63, Runs - 113, Outs - 1, SR - 179, 4s/6s - 5/9 Highest SR in Overs 7-9 in T20Is in 2022 (Test nations): KL Rahul - 179, D Warner - 170, S Yadav - 167 Most sixes in Overs 7-9 in T20Is in 2022 (Test nations): KL Rahul - 9 Nicholas Pooran - 8, S Yadav - 7 Hardik Pandya has had a quiet World Cup with the bat so far, even considering his contribution against Pakistan, but with the short square boundaries on offer at Adelaide and England's lack of pace, this is one game where he can light the stage up with his big hitting. Because of the RHB-heavy nature of the Indian batting unit and the venue's conduciveness to wrist spin, Liam Livingstone could bowl more (or at least England would try to bowl him more) in this game. India, on the other hand, can chase him out of the attack in the same way as they can do with Adil Rashid - a set KL Rahul and Suryakumar, once again, the key. Lower Middle Order: It is unclear how India will approach the Rishabh Pant vs Dinesh Karthik situation; from Rohit Sharma's pre-match press conference, it appeared that they were preparing him to face the New Zealand spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi. Karthik returns to the picture now that it's England that they will be facing in the semi-final. Bowling Options: 6 (Main – 4, Support – 2) Today's new new ball spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh will be crucial because the pair has been on fire in the powerplay and the opposition's biggest and craziest batters, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, bat in this phase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also has a strong record against Jos Buttler, though neither Buttler nor Hales is particularly vulnerable to pace on the powerplay. However, keep in mind that all of these matchups are out of the toss when there is movement available, as new ball movement is not a feature of most T20 games. Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Jos Buttler in T20 cricket: Balls - 69, Runs - 66, Outs - 5, Avg - 13.2, SR - 96 In Form: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh Out of Form: Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel Big Names on the bench: Rishabh Pant, Yuzvendra Chahal Potential Changes: Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik in With Dawid Malan out, England aren't as LHB-heavy as they usually are, so India should try to replace Ravichandran Ashwin with Yuzvendra Chahal in this game, with three of the opposition's batters - Alex Hales, Ben Stokes, and Harry Brook - vulnerable to the bowling type. However, will they be flexible enough to drop someone who has been with them throughout the league stage for the knockouts is the question that needs answering.

England – Team Notes

Batting Options: 8 (Main – 7, Support – 1) Opening Pair: RHB-RHB The lack of runs by Jos Buttler is exaggerated. In the last seven T20Is, England's captain has three 60-plus scores. His problem in this game will be dealing with the in-form new ball pairing of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh rather than battling his form. Alex Hales, on the other hand, has broken his slump with back-to-back 40+ scores in must-win games. The 33-year-old is one of the most destructive batters in world cricket right now, and India will have to bank on new ball movement to get him out; if he avoids that, legspin & SLAO are their best bets. Middle Order: Only one LHB between No.3 and No.5 With Dawid Malan out, it appears that Ben Stokes will fill the No.3 spot. What remains to be seen is how they will integrate Phil Salt, who will be playing at his BBL home ground, into the XI: while the right-hander is normally a top order batter, England has used him as a middle and lower middle order bat as well. If they go that route again, it opens the door for Moeen Ali to come up in the order to deal with the Indian spin duo. Lower Middle Order: With Livingstone, Sam Curran, and one of Moeen Ali/Harry Brook/Phil Salt at Nos. 6-8, England has a complete pace power hitting pack down the order. They will be able to handle all pace lengths with the three options they will have. Bowling Options: 7 (Main – 5, Support – 2) England's bowling unit is complete except for two key components that will be required against India: pace and SLAO. As a result, their bowling unit is good in quantity but mediocre in quality. Mark Wood and Liam Dawson in England's bowling unit today could have changed a lot of things. In form: Sam Curran Out of form: Harry Brook Big Names on the bench: David Willey Potential Changes: Mark Wood, Dawid Malan out - Chris Jordan, Phil Salt in
