Batting Options: 7 (Main – 6; Support – 1) Opening Pair: RHB-RHB This is Rohit Sharma's worst year in T20Is since 2017, both in terms of average runs per wicket and strike rate. Playing a high volume of T20 cricket in a short period of time hasn't worked out for Rohit, which is why he's been poor in the IPL despite having a highly successful T20I career on the side since 2017. However, the Indian captain prefers traditional bowling, which England has plenty of - with no mystery spin and quick wrist spin. So don't rule him out just yet. Bowling Options: 6 (Main – 4, Support – 2) Today's new new ball spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh will be crucial because the pair has been on fire in the powerplay and the opposition's biggest and craziest batters, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, bat in this phase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also has a strong record against Jos Buttler, though neither Buttler nor Hales is particularly vulnerable to pace on the powerplay. However, keep in mind that all of these matchups are out of the toss when there is movement available, as new ball movement is not a feature of most T20 games. Batting Options: 8 (Main – 7, Support – 1) Opening Pair: RHB-RHB The lack of runs by Jos Buttler is exaggerated. In the last seven T20Is, England's captain has three 60-plus scores. His problem in this game will be dealing with the in-form new ball pairing of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh rather than battling his form. Alex Hales, on the other hand, has broken his slump with back-to-back 40+ scores in must-win games. The 33-year-old is one of the most destructive batters in world cricket right now, and India will have to bank on new ball movement to get him out; if he avoids that, legspin & SLAO are their best bets. Middle Order: Only one LHB between No.3 and No.5 With Dawid Malan out, it appears that Ben Stokes will fill the No.3 spot. What remains to be seen is how they will integrate Phil Salt, who will be playing at his BBL home ground, into the XI: while the right-hander is normally a top order batter, England has used him as a middle and lower middle order bat as well. If they go that route again, it opens the door for Moeen Ali to come up in the order to deal with the Indian spin duo. Lower Middle Order: With Livingstone, Sam Curran, and one of Moeen Ali/Harry Brook/Phil Salt at Nos. 6-8, England has a complete pace power hitting pack down the order. They will be able to handle all pace lengths with the three options they will have. Bowling Options: 7 (Main – 5, Support – 2) England's bowling unit is complete except for two key components that will be required against India: pace and SLAO. As a result, their bowling unit is good in quantity but mediocre in quality. Mark Wood and Liam Dawson in England's bowling unit today could have changed a lot of things.
